In past weeks, some viral videos on the insecurity in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State have caused unnecessary panic of a purported mass Killings in Eha-Amufu, an account found to be untrue.

Though there have been several herders attacks on the agrarian communities dating back to 2022, but natives have described reports of a recent incident in the communities as false and exaggerated.

ait.live visited the affected Ogette Mgbuji farm settlement and Abor community of Eha-Amufu.

Eha-Amufu, a sprawling host town of the College of Education located in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, shares common borders with Ebonyi and Benue States, and its vast fertile farmlands and forests have long attracted farmers and herders alike, leading to clashes and several violent attacks allegedly by armed herdsmen.

In 2022, suspected herders from neighbouring Benue State, invaded several farm settlements and villages in Eha-Amufu, leading to loss of lives and destruction of homes and farm produce.

A recent viral video falsely claimed that there was another large scale attack on the community on February 28, 2025, but locals have denied the claim

When ait.live visited Ogbette Mgbuji farm settlement and Abor community, two of the areas where the alleged killings occurred, no resident could point to any mass grave, nor show where the supposed victims were buried.

Though they admit that a young boy, Ndubisi Donatus Igwurube, was killed on his farm and a woman allegedly raped by individuals suspected to be herders, yet no one could give a verifiable evidence of mass killing in the communities.

Also, ait.live met the woman who was allegedly raped to death at her farm in Abor community, again she denied the claim saying the viral video is false

The locals acknowledged what they described as persistent security threats by armed herders in the area, but dismissed reports of a large number of killings in recent months, calling them exaggerated.

Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Obiora Obeagu, himself an indigene of Eha-Amufu has faulted the false media reports of mass killing by alleged herders, explaining that such negative narratives, are politically motivated.

To address the security challenges of Eha-Amufu, Obeagu says the administration of Governor Peter Mbah has begun implementing long-term security and infrastructure measures, including an ongoing 25 km road construction aimed at opening up the vast agrarian areas, which he believes will provide a lasting solution.

For many in Eha-Amufu, they wait with cautious optimism that the new security and developmental strategies of the current Enugu State government will bring lasting security, peace and expected economic prosperity to their troubled land.
