The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has called on the Inspector-General of Police and the State Security Service to ensure that all the culprits involved in the rape and murder of Vera Omozuwa face the full wrath of the law.

The NBA, in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Kunle Edun, expressed shock at the dastardly act after Vera was allegedly raped and her head smashed with a fire extinguisher by some unidentified persons at a Pentecostal church in Benin.

According to the statement, the attack on young Vera Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the Department of Microbiology, University of Benin (UNIBEN), in Ikpoba Hill axis of Benin City, Edo State, serves as a further call on government at all levels not to pay lip service to the increasing incidence of violence against women and the girl-child.

The association said that it is also ready to partner with the various governments through the NBA Women Forum to come up with policies that will engender more protection of the rights and privileges of women and the girl-child.
