The President Of The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Afam Osigwe, has threatened to take legal action against the Chairman of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Ola Olukoyede for alleging that Nigerian lawyers play a central role in enabling major financial fraud.
While issuing a final warning to the Chairman of the Anti-Graft Agency, the senior lawyer noted that, while the NBA acknowledges that no profession is immune to ethical breaches or instances of misconduct, the broad profiling of lawyers as primary enablers of financial crimes was not only inaccurate but unjustified.
The NBA president said this at the unveiling of the 2025 NBA annual general conference logo and theme “ Stand Out, Stand Tall”, which is a call to action for lawyers, to rise above mediocrity and uphold the tenets of the profession.
The EFCC chairman in a speech delivered at the opening of the 6th Annual Criminal Law Review Conference in Abuja by the Rule Of Law Foundation, insisted that no mega financial fraud could be perfected without the help of lawyers.
