NBC Directs Defaulting Stations To Renew Licenses Or Risk Revocation

The Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Balarabe Ilelah has directed Broadcast Stations Owing licensing Fees to pay up before September 9th, 2023 or have their licenses revoked.

Balarabe made this known at a meeting with media Owners from across Nigeria who converged on Lagos, South West Nigeria

Going by the National Broadcasting Commission’s regulations, broadcast Media Owner are to remit 2.5 Percent of their Annual income, but due to reasons not unconnected to harsh Economic Realities, Many many stations are not meeting up with this requirement.

It is to review the situation and find a common ground that informed the gathering.

The Director General and other speakers also canvassed for State Government’s Support to help state owned stations stay afloat

An interesting aspect of the meeting was the interactive session that allowed Participants make their input.

According to The NBC Boss, the Commission has over the past twenty years not reviewed the licensing regime to enable broadcast stations survive amidst Economic Hardship.
