The Accessibility Department of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) conducted an assessment visit to the Gosa Rehabilitation Centre and the Karmajiji Skills Acquisition Centre. This visit aimed to evaluate the current state of these facilities and outline proposed renovations to enhance accessibility and functionality for persons with disabilities.
The visit on Monday highlighted the urgent need for renovations at both centers. The Gosa Rehabilitation Centre and Karmajiji Skills Acquisition Centre play critical roles in supporting the rehabilitation and empowerment of persons with disabilities. However, the existing infrastructure falls short in providing an accessible environment conducive to their needs.
Dr. James David Lalu, PhD, npom, Executive Secretary of the NCPWD, emphasized the importance of creating facilities that support independence and promote inclusivity. “Improving the accessibility of these centers is not just a necessity; it is a commitment to the dignity and empowerment of persons with disabilities. These renovations will ensure that all individuals, regardless of their physical limitations, can fully utilize and benefit from the services provided,” stated Dr. Lalu.
The proposed renovations include the installation of ramps, widened doorways, and other essential accessibility features. Upgraded amenities will facilitate better care and promote independence among the residents. These enhancements are crucial in ensuring that the centers can meet the diverse needs of their users effectively.
Dr. Lalu further noted, “The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities is dedicated to improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities across the nation. The renovations at Gosa Rehabilitation Centre and Karmajiji Skills Acquisition Centre are part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that these facilities are fully accessible and equipped to empower individuals with disabilities.”
By investing in these renovations, the NCPWD aims to promote the independence of individuals with disabilities and ensure their full participation in society. The upgraded facilities will support rehabilitation efforts and provide a conducive environment for skill acquisition and personal development.
“The renovations will not only enhance the physical accessibility of the centers but also create an inclusive environment that fosters growth and empowerment,” added Dr. Lalu.
The NCPWD remains steadfast in its mission to create a more inclusive society where persons with disabilities can thrive and contribute meaningfully. The proposed renovations at Gosa Rehabilitation Centre and Karmajiji Skills Acquisition Centre mark a significant step towards achieving this goal.
