For the second time in four years, Peter Obi will contest in Nigeria’s presidential election, but this time on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
This follows Saturday’s ratification of his candidature at a special convention of the party in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
So, Peter Obi who came in in third place in the 2023 presidential race, with just over six million votes, is back in the race for next year’s contest.
Party leaders described the one-time Anambra State governor as a leader with the vision and capacity to tackle Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges.
In his acceptance speech, Obi thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to run an issue-based campaign focused on improving the welfare of Nigerians.
He urged party faithful to remain united and committed to the task ahead, stressing that the 2027 election offers an opportunity to build a better future for the country.
The party leaders renewed their calls for grassroots mobilisation and nationwide support as the NDC begins preparations for its campaign ahead of the general election.
