The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has formally positioned itself ahead of the 2027 elections by zoning its presidential ticket to the South, while Peter Obi and Musa Kwankwaso publicly aligned with the party’s convention and political direction.

The development formed the major highlight of the party’s national convention in Abuja, where delegates also approved party executives and constitutional amendments aimed at strengthening internal structures.

The convention, the party’s first since its registration in February, drew key political figures and party stakeholders seeking to shape the NDC’s direction ahead of the next general elections.

Delegates ratified the zoning of the presidential ticket to the South, a decision party leaders described as a move aimed at promoting balance, inclusion and national cohesion.

Peter Obi used the platform to renew calls for free, fair and credible elections, insisting that transparent electoral processes remain critical to Nigeria’s democratic future.

Musa Kwankwaso endorsed the party’s zoning arrangement, describing it as a necessary step toward fairness and national unity.

Leader of the party, Seriake Dickson, said the NDC intends to build a policy-driven opposition platform focused on governance, accountability and national development.

The convention also underscored growing political consultations around the party as preparations gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
