The Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Professor Kemabradikumo Pondei is currently in a “stable condition” after being admitted at the National Hospital Abuja.
Pondei collapsed on Monday while responding to questions from members of the House of Representatives Committee probing the over N40 billion contracts of the Commission.
He was immediately rushed out of the Hearing Room 231 in the House of Representatives to the hospital. ait.live learnt that he was briefly sedated, but it’s not clear whether he has been discharged.
Meanwhile, the NDDC says Pondei has been ill for the past 2 weeks. A statement by the Commission’s Director Corporate Affairs, Charles Odili
says his doctors had advised against his appearing before the Committee.
“This morning, his condition deteriorated, and his doctors advised against attending the hearing. However, he ignored his doctors’ advice because of the realisation that his traducers will use his absence at the hearing to soil his name and reputation”.
The statement said Pondei insisted on attending the probe hearing. “He thought he could make it through the hearing and take care of his health later. As it turned out, his doctors were right”.
