The people of Soku Community in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, have commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for donating palliative to cushion the effects of health challenges that struck the people early this year.

The people told ait.live that the NDDC intervention will go along way in addressing their plights.

Soku Community, a major oil and gas producing riverine community in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, had witnessed serious health challenges that ravaged the residents including her satellite suburb, due to what health officials attributed to bad drinking water from the polluted river and wells

To avoid further loss of lives the community cried to the NDDC for help and the Board of the Commission immediately approved emergency procurement of healthcare deliverables and services, which have been executed, including the provision of palliatives, provision of drinking water and modern toilet systems.

On Monday, the NDDC made good of its promise by delivering the palliatives to Soku community, ranging from bags of rice, garri, beans, to toiletries.

The people say they are grateful for the donations, describing the NDDC as a “promise keeper”.

The Rivers State representative on the Board of the NDDC, Tony Okocha urged the community to provide land to enable the contractor for the Solar Powered water project to start functioning
