The Niger Delta development commission NDDC says it is ready for partnership that will lead to massive rice cultivation within the Niger Delta region.
The managing director of the NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku stated this, while playing host to the rice farmers association of Nigeria, at the commission’s headquarters in port Harcourt.
The meeting with rice farmers association of Nigeria is to seek what role the NDDC could play to solve issues of food scarcity and hunger in Nigeria.
Managing Director of the commission, Samuel Ogbuku who was represented by the executive director projects, Victor Antai, said the NDDC through her Project ‘Hope Initiative’ has been able to identify youths who are ready to go into agriculture.
He said the cultivation and processing of rice is an area the commission is willing to Partner the group, to ensure full utilization of the NDDC rice mill at Elele in rivers state and at Ini in Akwa Ibom State.
Visiting the NDDC rice farm at Elele with the team, Antai said such partnership will ensure that more Niger delta youths are engaged positively and that issues of raw materials will become things of the past.
Antai said NDDC is committed to achieving food sufficiency, hence the need to collaborate with the rice farmers association of Nigeria.
