The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says it will continue to ensure the implementation and localization of the United Nations sustainable development goals six transitions within the Niger Delta region.
The managing director of the NDDC, Samuel ogbuku, gave the assurance during a 2-day UN-NDDC Niger Delta SDG’s localization summit in uyo,
Akwa Ibom state.
The sustainable development goals ( SDGs) an initiative of the United Nations is aimed at promoting socio-economic development across the globe.
In Nigeria, the UN is working with relevant government agencies, development partners and the civil society organizations on six transitions goals, namely: education, food security, climate and biodiversity, ICT, energy and job creation.
The managing director of the NDDC, Samuel ogbuku, says the addition of health to the other six transitions goals is due to its importance to people of the Niger Delta region, and assured them of the commission’s determination to pursue the implementation of the key items.
Some of the Stakeholders noted that such participatory engagement would go a long way in addressing the perculiar challenges of the people of the oil rich Niger Delta region.
The theme of the UN-NDDC Niger Delta SDG localization summit is, ” localizing the SDGs in the Niger Delta through six transitions.”
