The war against drug abuse and illicit trafficking intensified in Kogi State, in the North Central region of Nigeria, as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has arrested no fewer than 129 suspects and seized over 282 kilograms of banned substances.

At a News Conference in Lokoja, the State capital, to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Kogi State Commander of the Agency, Umar Mustapha Yahuza, said the Command’s recent operations led to the uncovering of a disturbing volume of illegal drug activities in the State.

He added that the Command has secured 35 convictions since January 2025 with more cases still ongoing at the Federal High Court in Lokoja, pointing out that through its Drug Demand Reduction Unit, the Agency has taken the fight to communities, schools, motor parks, and places of worship to raise awareness and offer critical supports.

The NDLEA appealed to the Kogi State Government to fulfill its commitment to build a multi-purpose skill acquisition and rehabilitation center to help drug users rebuild their lives.
