The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says it arrested 993 suspects, comprising 977 males and seized1..5 million kilograms of drugs in the last one year.

The commander of the agency, Muhammed Ibrahim, disclosed this at an event, where he received an award for An Icon of Societal Development, from the Association of Northern Nigerian Students, and the presentation of prizes to winning schools of the First Lady’s Spelling Bee Competition.

The event was organized to commemorate Commander Muhammed Ibrahim’s one year of assuming leadership of the Katsina Command of the NDLEA.

According to Ibrahim, the quest to reduce drug demand and consumption, made him hit the ground running, with support from the state government, and effective synergy with other security agencies.

The Katsina NDLEA boss also said the Drug Demand Reduction Unit of the command was able to rehabilitate and counsel 76 persons, 4 of them from Niger Republic, while close to 800 persons have undergone brief intervention at the centre.

Ibrahim said the command has taken the War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, message to most of the communities within the state, and was able to interact with the traditional rulers, right from the Emirs of Katsina and Daura, down to the District Heads.
