NDLEA arrests Iran-bound businessman for allegedly ingesting 53 wraps of Cocaine

An Iran-bound businessman Ezemokwe Chukwuebuka Christian, has been arrested at Port Harcourt Airport for allegedly ingesting 53 wraps of Cocaine.

Tramadol Consignments concealed in Winter Jackets worth N1.1billion have also been intercepted by Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA

Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, confirmed these developments in a weekly update of the NDLEA in a statement issued this Sunday.

Several suspects, including businessmen attempting to traffic drugs overseas were arrested in connection with these seizures.

At the Port Harcourt International Airport, 44-year-old businessman Ezemokwe Chukwuebuka Christian was arrested on Saturday, June 7th.

He had ingested 53 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.172 kilograms, hoping to smuggle them to Tehran, Iran via Doha on a Qatar Airways flight.

The suspect confessed he had been trafficking drugs between West Africa and Iran for two years.

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, NDLEA operatives in collaboration with Aviation Security stopped Edobor Ambrose Ali, an Italy-bound passenger, in the early hours of June 14th.

Hidden in Winter Jackets inside his luggage were 14,410 tramadol pills, concealed for illegal shipment to Milan, Italy.
The suspect admitted he was promised €2,000 for the job.

At Onne Port, Rivers State, a joint inspection with Customs on June 13th uncovered 157,800 bottles of Codeine-based Syrup worth over ₦1.1 billion.

The Opioids were hidden behind cartons of ceramic sanitary wares inside a container under watch.

In Cross River State, NDLEA Operatives stormed a warehouse in Obereakai, Odukpani LGA, seizing 2,687 kilograms of skunk.

Three suspects were arrested in the Operation on June 12th: Friday Achibong Joseph, Abraham Anthony Willy, and Utibe David Okon.

In Bauchi, Officers intercepted a Toyota Camry on the Bauchi-Jos road, recovering 287 kilograms of skunk in the vehicle and arresting two men: Iriemi Imonikhe and Sa’idu Ladan.

At Oniru beach in Lagos, the Marine Command seized 560 kilograms of skunk from a wooden boat.

At Maiduguri Airport, two businessmen, Ishaku Abdullahi and Buba Usman, were caught with ecstasy pills and skunk disguised in brightly coloured wraps labelled ‘Lychee’ and ‘Porro Legal’.
