About 1.6 million kilograms of illicit substances seized across Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo state have been destroyed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Marwa was represented by the agency’s Director of Assets and Financial Investigation (DAFI), Ibrahim Abdul at the destruction site in Ipara, Ogun State, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Marwa described the latest exercise as the largest volume of seizures to be set ablaze in a single day in the agency’s history.

The destroyed illicit drugs were from NDLEA zones 9 and 11, comprising Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos seaports, Idi-Roko, and Seme borders.
According to the NDLEA, before the final destruction of the illicit drugs, court approval and random laboratory tests were carried out to ascertain the true status of the substances.
Some of the illicit drugs destroyed include 123 kilograms of cocaine, over 46 kilograms of heroin, including more than a million kilograms of cannabis, also known as Indian hemp, among others.
