In what is being described as one of the largest single drug seizures in Nigeria’s history, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, is working with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency to track down the cartel behind 1,000 kilogrammes of cocaine recovered at the PTML Terminal of Tincan Island Port in Lagos.
The massive haul, valued at over $235 million, which is more than N338 billion, was discovered in an empty container at the port during a joint inspection involving NDLEA, Customs, and other security agencies.
Following the discovery, NDLEA Chairman Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) directed the immediate involvement of international partners to ensure that every link in the transnational drug network is exposed and brought to justice.
Marwa, in a statement from Abuja, confirmed that operatives of the US-DEA and UK-NCA have joined the investigation, a move he says underscores NDLEA’s resolve to dismantle global narcotics cartels operating through Nigeria’s ports.
