The Cross Rivers State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has requested the State government to aid individuals grappling with drugs addiction, by establishing a rehabilitation center in the area.
Rachel Umebuali, the State Commander, highlighted this pressing need during a visit to Governor Bassey Otu at the Government House, Calabar.
Umebuali also requested for operational funds for the Command’s routine operations to assist the Agency in the fight to make the State free of illicit drugs use.
Governor Bassey Otu, in a response to the requests made by the NDLEA, reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to combating drugs abuse, promising a continued collaboration with the NDLEA to address all pressing issues.
The call for a collaborative action by the State NDLEA Command, reflects the growing recognition of the need for a multi-faceted approach towards combating drugs abuse, which emphasize prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation as integral components of a comprehensive strategy.
Under Umebuali’s leadership, the NDLEA in Cross River State is reported to have achieved significant milestones, including the arrest of 150 suspects and the seizure of 2.1 tons of various substances suspected to be hard drugs in the past year.
