Sen Ndume

The Chairman Senate Committee on Army, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, has expressed concern that the recent cash crunch caused by the redesigned Naira, might negatively affect troops in the theatres of war against insurgents, terrorists, and other forms of criminality across the country.

Senator Ndume said this in Maiduguri when he was speaking with journalists.

Senator Ali Ndume said the troops fighting the various criminal activities around the country, may be finding it difficult to access the new Naira notes, to meet up with their daily requirements.

The Senator observed that during his recent visit to his constituency in southern Borno, the soldiers encountered challenges, due to the shortage of the redesigned notes, particularly in the remote areas.

“The Naira redesign is affecting the security operations negatively and it should be considered before it gets out of hand.”

Ndume asked the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to ensure that the needed cash is supplied to military personnel and other security agents, for their operations.

He says he is not against the new monetary policy of the federal government, but he is concerned on the hardship, the redesigned notes has brought on ordinary Nigerians.

“Any government policy in conflict with the interest of the people is illegal.”

Ali Ndume called on the Federal Government to provide the needed technological infrastructure, to fast-track the cashless policy.
