The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has called on the Kaduna State government to proactively address flooding concerns this year in order to improve agricultural produce.
The Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, made the plea during the distribution of assorted food commodities to residents and farmers in Kaduna State.
The commencement of the food distribution in Kaduna by NEMA, follows the release of 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities from the National Strategic Reserve, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The NEMA boss gave a breakdown of the allocation for Kaduna State to include; 10,120 bags of 50 kg maize, 11,776 bags of 50 kg sorghum, and 4,370 bags of 50 kg millet.
The DG emphasised the threat of climate change to food security, particularly in Kaduna State, and urged the State government to implement measures to combat perennial flooding.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, affirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring equitable distribution of the relief items to the poor and vulnerable.
The Governor sternly warned against the diversion of relief items, cautioning that offenders would face consequences without exception.
