As part of measures to cushion the effects of hunger in the country,the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has presented Maize and Garri to the Benue State Government for onward disbursement to vulnerable groups.
Director-General NEMA, Zubaida Umar who made the presentation in Makurdi,says 20 percent of the food items will be given to each local government area, including religious organisations such as; the Christian Association of Nigeria and Jama’at Nasir Islam.
A total of 897 metric tonnes of maize and a hundred and eight metric tonnes of garri was handed over to the Benue State Government for the vulnerable by the National Emergency Management Agency on behalf of the Federal Government.
The move was appreciated by the State Government who says it is working hard to ensure food security for not just its citizens or the country but the whole world.
Executive Secretary State Emergency Management Agency James Iorpuu promised fair and equitable distribution of the grains to the most vulnerable members of the communities.
