In a move to uphold environmental integrity, the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed 14 facilities across Abuja for violating National Environmental Regulations.
The violations range from noise pollution to lack of statutory environmental documents, all posing significant threats to human health and the environment.
NESREA’s Director General, Innocent Barikor, emphasized that the action reflects the agency’s unwavering commitment to enforce environmental laws and protect public
well-being.
The enforcement exercise followed NESREA’s comprehensive inspections and repeated compliance notice ignored by the affected facilities which include operators in quarrying, construction, and the entertainment sectors.
They were sealed for violations ranging from excessive blasting and noise pollution to failure in submitting mandatory environmental impact assessment documents.
NESREA’s Director General Innocent Barikor says the agency’s Investigations revealed that the violators also surpassed legal limits on charge loading density, as well as blasting pit and borehole depth which leads to dangerous ground vibrations, rock projections, and air pollution.
The exercise, reinforces NESREA’s commitment to bringing about full industry compliance with environmental standards even as it vows to intensify surveillance and enforcement across the country to ensure safe and sustainable development.
