Nigerian Parents and guardians have been charged to display more commitment and sincerity through close monitoring of their teenagers and youths to guard against drug abuse ravaging the country.
Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Gloria Okoduwa and the Commander, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kwara State Command, Ibrahim Muhammed gave the charge during the 2023 FIDA Week which held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital
The rising menace of drug abuse especially amongst youths across the country is what prompted the symposium by FIDA and other relevant stakeholders who challenged parents to pay close attention to their youths.
Keynote speaker who is also the Kwara State NDLEA Commander raises concerns over a new trend of substance abuse via online demand known as “Darknet”. He maintains that drug abuse is one of the leading factors of suicide’s attempt in the country, calling on parents to wake up to their duties.

The consensus by the stakeholders is that if the ongoing fight against drug abuse will succeed in the country, parents must equally play their roles by closely monitoring their youths for proper upbringing.
