The Central Bank of Nigeria has taken its awareness campaign on the redesigned naira notes to Abia State assuring that the apex bank has enough new notes to reach everybody in Nigeria.

Officials of the CBN also went round Umuahia the State capital and the commercial center of Aba, to monitor and evaluate the level of compliance by banks in making the new notes available to customers through ATMs as directed by the apex bank.

The awareness campaign which was staged at A Line section of the famous Ariaria International Market Aba had a huge number of traders and market leaders in attendance.

Speaking at the event, the CBN Director of Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi explained that the awareness campaign has become necessary given that many Nigerians were still claiming ignorance of the new notes.

The CBN spokesman said that people should embrace other payment channels such as ATMs, internet banking, mobile banking among others, adding, it is very dangerous to carry cash around, these days.

He however acknowledged the existence of significant challenges in pushing out the new notes to the public following the visit of his team to some bank branches at Umuahia and Aba.

Mwanisiobi while explaining the reasons the CBN redesigned the three highest denomination of the national currency, noted that the amount of money outside banking system was unacceptable due to its negative impact on the economy.
