The new Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, says he will take steps to address the problem of arms proliferation, which is contributing to the rising cases of cult clashes and other crimes in the state.
CP Afolabi made the promise on Tuesday while officially assuming office as the 45th Commissioner of Police in the state.
He swung into action immediately with an on-the-spot assessment of Owo, where four persons were killed during a cult clash on Monday.
The commissioner and his team were also at the Federal Medical Centre, where a victim of the clash is receiving treatment.
CP Afolabi said nineteen suspects have been arrested in connection with the fracas, adding that the command is out to arrest others still at large.
He met with journalists at the command headquarters, where he said persons with unauthorised firearms would be dispossessed of them to make the state safer.
The Police Commissioner said he will deploy the use of technology to effectively address security challenges confronting the state.
