The Minister Of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige says the Nationwide protest by staff of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trustfund, NSITF is ill-concieved.
The Minister who spoke with Ait’s Abulu Osemuaghu via telephone said the salary review delay which workers are protesting over, is being reworked by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, due to errors in the computation.
Ngige said the workers unions are being mischievous to have embarked on the protest, shutting down activities of the agency nationwide, knowing full well the leadership of their Unions are part of the ongoing team re-working the review.
The Minister stressed that the initially submitted salary structure was not tenable, as it contested with the NSITF revenue.

Ngige expressed concerns that the Association of Senior staff of Banks, insurance and financial institutions, ASSBIFI and the National Union of Banks, insurance and financial institutions, NUBIFI, will result to cheap blackmail, even after several meetings with both the management of NSITF and the Minister of Labour and Employment, to resolve the matter.
He said it is true that the first of January, 2023 was set aside for the implementation, and that the date has not changed.
The Minister of Labour insisted that whenever the salary review by the Incomes commission is concluded, the implementation will still take effect from January 1, 2023.
