The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has condemned the gruesome attack that claimed the lives of Fatima Abubakar and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano State, on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Reacting to the incident, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Tony Ojukwu, SAN, described the act as barbaric and inhumane, noting that it constitutes not only a crime against humanity but also a grave violation of the fundamental right to life as guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as international human rights instruments to which Nigeria is a signatory.

Ojukwu called on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
