The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran television producer and journalist, Shola Aiyebola of Africa Independent Television, AIT.
In a statement, the Commission described his death as a major loss to journalism and the human rights community in Nigeria.
NHRC said Aiyebola was an exceptional journalist and committed human rights advocate who used the media to promote justice, accountability, and human dignity.
The Commission highlighted his role as producer of the programme “State of Human Rights,” aired on Kakaaki on AIT, noting that the show provided a credible platform for public enlightenment and policy dialogue on human rights issues.

NHRC added that the late producer upheld high professional standards, including accuracy, balance, objectivity, and fairness in reporting sensitive human rights stories.
Describing his passing as a monumental loss, the Commission said his legacy would endure through the impact of his work and the standards he set for journalism in service to humanity.
The NHRC extended condolences to his family, the management and staff of Africa Independent Television, and the wider human rights community, and prayed for the repose of his soul.
