A Professor of Economics at the University of Benin in Edo state Anthony Monye- Emina has recommended deliberate investment of human capital Resources for development to the Nigerian nation.
Professor Monye- Emina gave the recommendation while delivering the institution’s 305th inaugural lecture of the University of Benin held on Thursday at the main auditorium Ugbowo campus.
The Vice chancellor of the university of Benin Professor Lilian Salami represented by the deputy vice chancellor academics professor Ray Ozolua introduced the inaugural lecturer professor Anthony Monye- Emina to a mammoth crowd of academics, students and other guests to deliver the three hundred and five inaugural lecture of the institution.
While delivering the lecture titled “Attaining Economic Development: Are there necessary and sufficient imperatives for Nigeria?”, Professor Monye-Emina advanced the argument that development in Nigeria must be built around creating an enabling environment that can boost the people’s potentials and to manage their natural resources.
Noting Nigeria’s underdevelopment after six decades of independence, the university don proposed investment in education as a sufficient condition for transforming the economic development of Nigeria with the objective of raising productivity, creativity and promoting entrepreneurship and technological innovations.
Guests and academics who graced the lecture urged the federal government to take the recommendations proposed by the lecturer seriously as a way out of Nigeria’s underdevelopment.
Highlights of the inaugural lecture series of the university of Benin, was the decoration of the lecturer.
