Cholera cases in Niger State have risen to 289, with the death toll put at 17, while 9 people are hospitalised across the 11 local government areas of the state.
The Commissioner for Secondary and Tertiary Health, Bello Tukur disclosed this when he appeared before the State House of Assembly alongside his counterpart in the Ministry of Primary to explain what is being done regarding the increasing cases of cholera in the state.
Tukur said response strategies were being implemented for the outbreak in the state, saying that a committee has been set up for that purpose.

Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Primary and Secondary Health, Umar Nasiru called on the public to avoid open defecation, dispose their wastes properly and boil water from unknown sources before use.
He also urged anyone experiencing symptoms of diarrhea to seek medical attention immediately rather than resorting to self-medication.
