24 hours after the collapse of a mining site at Galadima Kogo in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State trapping about 30 persons including the site manager, Ibrahim Ishaku, rescue and evacuation is underway.
The Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba-Arah who gave the update added that sanctions will be meted out on the owner of the site to serve as a deterrent to other illegal miners who defy government order on the ban of such activities.

Speaking on the efforts being made by the agency in collaboration with other professional bodies, the DG NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba-Arah said the rescuers are getting close to the trapped victims and actual figures will be given at the end of the exercise.
He also added that, for defying government orders on mining activities, the owner of the site will be sanctioned accordingly.
He therefore reiterated that mining activities have been placed on hold till further notice by the government.
