The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it is set to conduct a re-run election into the Lavun state constituency on February 3.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner Ahmed Garki who disclosed this during a stakeholders meeting said the election will be conducted in 32 polling units with a total of 19,121 registered voters to exercise their franchise.

The re-run election into the Lavun state constituency is made possible as a result of the candidate of the All Progress Congress, APC, in the February 2023 elections, Jibrin Ndagi who challenged the outcome at the tribunal.

Ndagi who polled 18,200 votes against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s Yusuf Dabban who scored 20, 429 to emerge winner, alleged some irregularities.

At the stakeholders meeting, the Niger state REC, Ahmed Garki said the re-run will be conducted across 9 registration areas across 32 polling units urging parties to play by the rule.

In their separate contributions, the chairman of the Inter-party Advisory Council, IPAC, Bello Maikujeri, and another stakeholder, Idris Gbangba, assured of adequate sensitization to ensure a hitch-free re-run.

Currently, the APC has 22 out of the 27 constituency seats while the PDP has 5.

Recall that the appeal court had on November 24 upheld the judgment of the tribunal directing a rerun in 9 registration areas across 32 polling units with about 19,121 registered voters to partake in the exercise on February 3.
