The military junta that ousted Niger Republic President Mohamed Bazoum has reportedly indicated interest to dialogue with the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS after over two weeks of refusing to engage with the sub-regional body.
This came to the fore after coup leader General Abdourahmane Tchiani met a group of Islamic scholars from Nigeria led by the national leader of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah, JIBWIS, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau.
The information was released by the junta-appointed Prime Minister, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, who said the talks would take place in the next few days.

This is as ECOWAS is set to deploy troops to reinstate President Bazoum to power following Thursday’s second extra-ordinary summit in Abuja on the political situation in Niger Republic.
Only on Saturday, members of the ECOWAS Parliament held their own extra-ordinary virtual plenary in which only 22 of the 116 parliamentarians participated, with the advisory legislative body divided on the impending military action.
