Terrorists operating in the forest areas of Agwara local government area of Niger State have again attacked the Agwara town late Saturday night overrunning the community.

Among the structures destroyed during the attack were the main Agwara Police Divisional Headquarters and the First United Mission Church of Africa, UMCA, Church, both of which were reportedly torched during the overnight raid that extended into the early hours of Sunday.

According to local sources, the attackers operated freely for several hours, subjecting civilians to violence and intimidation amid a delayed security response.

As of the time of filing this report, locals say the assailants are still believed to be in the area, raising fears of further attacks.

It was further gathered that the terrorists left the area around six o’clock this Sunday morning and were headed to another village called Sokonbara close to Kabe, where the other attack took place recently.

On their way to the forest areas, the terrorists were said to have looted various foodstuffs and other valuable goods resulting in the killing of one old woman in the Kabe town.

Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, the police spokesman, has confirmed the attack.

According to him, the police tactical team on duty engaged the attackers, adding that the terrorists later overpowered the officers and used suspected dynamite to set the station on fire.

Abiodun added that, the situation is being monitored, and further developments will be communicated in due course.

He assured that security agencies had commenced investigations and intensified efforts to track the perpetrators and rescue the abducted victims.
