Niger State pays N700 million monthly to 11,000 ghost workers

The Chairman, Niger State salary management committee, Ibrahim Panti, has attributed the delay in the payment June salary to the discovery of about seven hundreds of million naira as monthly salaries to over 10,000 ghost workers.

Panti, who made this known in a statement expressed shock at how corruption has gained grounds in the state civil service, despite the fact that civil servant take substantial amount of the monthly allocation.

He further stated that the discovery was made during the screening exercise after the list summited to the committee was pruned from about 36,000 civil servants to 25,000.

Panti, added that the committee also discovered different serial numbers with the same bank verification numbers, repeated names with different bank accounts, as well as questionable allowances and salaries.

He also revealed that members of the screening committee have been receiving threats from different quarters, stressing that such threat will not distract nor deter them from discharging their assignment.

The chairman, Niger State salary management committee, assured that all suspects would be made to face the wrath of the law.
