The Niger State Government has unveiled a proposed budget of 1.58 trillion naira for the 2025 fiscal year.
Governor Umar Bago, presenting the appropriation bill at the State House of Assembly, highlighted that the proposal represents a 48.3% increase over the revised and approved 2024 budget of 805 billion naira.
The 2025 appropriation bill, tagged “Budget of Hope for Sustainability and Food Security,” seeks to solidify agriculture as the backbone of the state’s economy while fostering sustainable development in critical sectors.
The budget is structured with 196.3 billion naira allocated to recurrent expenditure, accounting for 13% of the total, and 1.3 trillion naira allocated to capital expenditure, making up 87%.
Governor Bago explained that the budget will be financed through a capital receipt component amounting to 933.5 billion naira, derived from 493.5 billion naira in loans and 440 billion naira in grants.
He noted that the proposed budget is aligned with the Economic and Fiscal Update (EFU) Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), and Budget Statement (BPS) 2025–2027, as approved by the Assembly.
Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Renewal receive, 437 billion naira, Agriculture, 399 billion naira, Education, 90 billion naira,Health, 85 billion naira, while Law and Justice, 3.5 billion naira.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, lauded the governor’s strategic resource management, noting its transformative impact on citizens’ lives.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s support for the administration’s developmental agenda, pledging to work towards a more prosperous Niger State.
