The Nigerian government and its Republic of Benin counterpart have signed an agreement aimed at addressing operational and technical challenges at the joint border post popularly known as the seme/krake border
In a ceremony held in Cotonou the Republic of Benin capital, Nigeria’s minister of state for transportation Senator Gbemisola Saraki and the minister of economy and finance Republic of Benin Romuald Wadagni signed the document on behalf of both governments
The new pact is to address the lack of synergy between both countries’ customs systems, lack of constant electricity and water supply, effective security architecture, among others.
Nigeria and the Republic of Benin are expected after a period of two years, to recruit a private management company for smooth operations of the joint border post.
The agreement signed is in compliance with the ECOWAS supplementary Acts for the establishment and operation of joint border posts in West Africa.
