Nigeria and China have renewed their commitment to a development partnership anchored on the welfare of their people, with renewed emphasis on initiatives that boost livelihoods, expand job opportunities, and strengthen cultural ties between citizens of both countries.
The pledge was reaffirmed at the 2026 Happy Chinese New Year Temple Fair held at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Joseph Tegbe, Director-General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, said the celebration reflected shared development ideals between both nations, stressing that progress must be measured by its direct impact on citizens.
He also reiterated Nigeria’s support for the One-China Principle, describing it as a cornerstone of the long-standing relationship and a key pillar of the comprehensive strategic cooperation that has grown steadily over more than five decades.

On his part, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Zhou Hongyou, said the celebration symbolised the strength of people-to-people exchanges that have consistently reinforced diplomatic relations between both countries.
Zhou noted that recent diplomatic milestones, including the upgrade of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership at the 2024 Forum on China–Africa Cooperation summit, have further accelerated collaboration in trade, infrastructure development, education, and cultural exchange.
