Deputy Controller of Nigeria Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, DCC Sanni Ojo Richard has emphasised the importance of quality education for inmates in Nigeria’s Correctional Centres across the country describing it as a critical reform tool in the transformation process required to make inmates better citizens when they are out of Correctional Centres.

The Deputy Controller, speaking for the Controller of Correction, CC Abioye kamoru Adesina made the disclosure while speaking on the recent graduation of ten inmates in various skill acquisition programs in the state at a time twenty eight others are graduating with various skills in capacity building.

DCC Sanni noted that findings have shown that most of those involved in crimes lack basic education, a development he says is a time bomb for the country.

The Deputy Controller further noted that government will continue to encourage fresh inmates on the need to take advantage of their stay in Correctional Centres to learn new skills as part of ongoing efforts to make Correctional Centres true transformative centres for inmates

Over 400 inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, have so far acquired different levels of educational qualifications, including degrees from the National Open University of Nigeria, over the past seven years.
