The Nigerian government has declared as fake 22,757 university certificates obtained from Togo and Benin Republic between 2019 and 2023.
The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman who said at a briefing to mark one year in office said the federal executive Council has approved that ministries, Departments and Agencies should fish out holders of such certificates while giving assurances that the 21 day strike notice by ASUU is being addressed to avoid industrial action.
The Minister of Education says only 3 universities approved in Togo and 5 in Benin Republic, while noting that any Nigerian who has attended a solely English University since 2017 is parading a fake certificate.
The Minister appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria to release funds meant for scholars on the bilateral education agreement since it was processed over one month ago.
