Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako says henceforth any medical laboratory scientist who fail to adhere to professional guidelines will face sanctions.
Dr. Salako gave the warning during a familiarisation visit to the headquarters of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
It is the first time the Minister of State for Health is visiting the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria to familiarise himself with the Council’s activities and inspect its key facilities such as
the National Laboratory Equipment Calibration Centre, National Biosafety Training Centre, and the Public Health Laboratory institutions.
The facilities are pivotal to ensuring quality and safety in medical laboratory practices across the country.

The Minister emphasised the vital role of the Council in upholding professional standards and therefore urged it to take firm action against practitioners who deviate from established guidelines.
Registrar of the Council, Tosan Erhabor, highlighted the efforts made so far to promote excellence among medical laboratory scientists, particularly referencing the Council’s focus on ensuring that Nigeria’s laboratory services meet global standards.
He also informed the Minister of the international accreditation given to three key facilities, including the In-Vitro Diagnostics Laboratory, National Quality Assurance Laboratory in Zaria, and National Laboratory Equipment Calibration Centre.
The Minister, Dr. Salako, reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for the Council to enable it to maintain professional integrity and ensure the reliability of laboratory services in Nigeria.
