The Federal Government says Nigeria is on the verge of eliminating trachoma as a public health concern, with only 11 local government areas yet to complete interventions.
At the AcceleraTE Trachoma Elimination Programme learning event held in Abuja, FG said 87 per cent of trachoma has been eliminated, with over 90 per cent of surgeries completed.
The Federal Government says just 11 of the 774 local government areas across the country are yet to achieve trachoma elimination targets, with activities in eight of them delayed due to insecurity.

Authorities say the progress reflects sustained efforts by government and development partners to combat the neglected tropical disease and prevent avoidable blindness.
They, however, stressed that maintaining proper environmental and personal hygiene remains critical to completely eliminating trachoma Asking Nigerians to embrace regular face washing, proper sanitation and clean surroundings as part of efforts to stop the spread of the disease.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to reaching the remaining affected communities despite security challenges.
