Nigeria Healthcare Sector: Tinubu approves Establishment of Sector-wide Coordinating Office-Programme Management Unit

President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of the Sector-wide Coordinating Office-Programme Management Unit to oversee the Nigeria health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring efficient, transparent, and accountable management of external grants totalling $2.2 billion.

This was made known in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale on Friday.

Ajuri added that the unit will report to a Steering Committee chaired by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare and will be responsible for programme management, monitoring and evaluation, and fiduciary management.

The health investment initiative to improve health outcomes and human capital in Nigeria, with objectives including saving lives, minimizing pain, and ensuring universal health coverage.

Meanwhile, Muntaqa Umar Sadiq has also been appointed as the National Coordinator of the SCO-PMU, bringing over 17 years of experience in public health, finance, and energy.

The Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII) was unveiled on December 12, 2023, following the adoption of the sector-wide policy by the National Council on Health in November 2023.
