Nigeria and Italy will co-chair the Global Education Summit in Rome this September, launching a drive to raise $5 billion to transform learning for 750 million children worldwide.
Both countries agreed to set up a Working Group to coordinate the Multiply Possibility Campaign, a Global Partnership for Education initiative. The campaign also aims to unlock an additional $10 billion in domestic education financing by 2030.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu announced the plan on Wednesday in a statement signed by her ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.

She told Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Roberto Mengoni that education is a core pillar of the President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, citing Nigeria’s large youth population.
“This partnership will equip our young people with skills, create employment, and help address migration,” Odumegwu-Ojukwu said. She called for constructive dialogue on migration and highlighted Nigeria’s interest in green investments for vulnerable communities. “We want to keep our youth within our shores in productive ways,” she added.
Ambassador Mengoni said the meeting was to align both co-chairs on details for the September summit. Discussions also touched on tourism, economic and defence cooperation.
The Global Education Summit is scheduled for September 2026 in Rome.
