The federal government says the nation’s economy has been negatively and greatly impacted by the activities of oil theft and pipeline vandalism, as the country loses about two billion dollars monthly to oil theft.
Minister of state for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva who visited the Bayelsa state Governor, Douye Diri alongside the Chief of Defense staff, General Lucky Irabor, and Group Managing Director, Nigerian National National Petroleum Company NNPC, Mele Kyari in Yenagoa, sought partnership with the Bayelsa state government on ways to tackle the hydra-headed challenges plaguing the oil and gas sector.
Sylva sought collaboration of the Bayelsa State Government on ways to end oil bunkering and environmental pollution in the Niger Delta region.
Governor Douye Diri called for urgent actions to help end the ugly trend in the interest of the region and country.
The minister and his team were on a tour of oil-producing states in the country to have first-hand information on the level of activities of oil bunkerers, their effect on the environment as well as the economy, and to source for lasting solutions.
