Veterinary Council Governing Board

Curtailing the second wave of Covid-19 from person to animal and developing a road map that would be a guide for the Veterinary Council Governing Board took centre stage at the 2020 Veterinary Council Retreat in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Speaking at the Retreat, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono who pledged government’s continuous support for the Council, urged animal farmers to ensure compliance with the animal’s protocol to Covid-19 disease.

Though research is still ongoing, it would appear that the virus that causes Covid-19 disease can spread from people to animals and vice versa. In realisation of this, the Council earlier in the year, entered into partnership with relevant stakeholders and developed a world-class Covid-19 Protocol in Animals.

With the recent surge in new cases, the Council says it is time to take the protocol measures across the 36 states and the FCT.

On her part, President of the Board, Aishatu Baju explained the issues bothering the Council, especially the need for the development of a Road Map for the new Veterinary council Governing Board.

The retreat with the theme “Setting the Agenda for a Better Council: Rethinking Veterinary Profession in Nigeria” was organised to chart a new course for the Board and the Veterinary Council in Nigeria.
