Nigeria’s complex security challenges require strong and decisive leadership at all levels, particularly at the junior and middle command levels, where real-time tactical decisions are made.

This was the emphasis of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, during the 1 Division Operations Planning Cadre 2025, organised for officers within the division’s Area of Responsibility.

The cadre serves as a crucial platform to enhance operational planning capabilities, and strengthen the leadership skills of junior commanders in a joint operational environment.

Major General Saraso underscored the significance of junior officers in military operations, noting that their ability to make sound decisions, lead with confidence, and adapt to dynamic security situations, play a vital role in ensuring mission success and operational efficiency.

He stressed that their effectiveness in leading troops, making swift and informed decisions, and coordinating seamlessly with other security agencies, is critical to achieving Nigeria’s overall security objectives.

The GOC further urged participants to seize the opportunity to refine their strategic approaches, enhance their operational capabilities, and ensure that the army remains fully prepared, to tackle both present and emerging security threats, within the 1 Division’s jurisdiction.
