The Nigerian national grid has suffered its 10th collapse in 2024, leaving the country in darkness.

The latest collapse occurred at 11:28 am on Thursday, November 7, 2024, just two days after the previous collapse.

According to the Independent System Operator, an autonomous arm of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), all power plants connected to the grid stopped producing electricity around 12 pm.

The ISO’s website showed a significant drop in power generation, from 2,323 megawatts at 11 am to 0.00 megawatts at 12 pm.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to disclose the reason for the collapse.

Jos Electricity Distribution Company (Disco) confirmed the development, stating that the outage was due to the loss of power supply from the national grid. “The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this morning at about 11:28 hours of today, Thursday, 7th November 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.”

The Disco assured customers that normal power supply would be restored as soon as the grid supply returns to normalcy.

This latest collapse has sparked concerns about the reliability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, with many calling for urgent reforms to address the frequent disruptions.

Nigerians continue to bear the brunt of the country’s struggling power sector, with businesses and households severely impacted by the frequent outages.
