As the 2024 Paralympic Games in France approach, Nigerians have plenty to celebrate.

A contingent of 24 athletes is set to embark on a training tour in Saarbrücken, Germany, as they prepare to represent the nation in Paris.

Unlike the recent Olympics, where Nigeria fell short of expectations, the Paralympic Committee Nigeria (PCN) is optimistic about the country’s chances in the upcoming Games.

Nigeria has a proud history at the Summer Paralympics, having participated in every edition since their inception. At the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games,

Nigeria secured an impressive haul of 10 medals, including 4 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze, bringing their total Paralympic medal count to 80. This strong track record fuels hopes for continued success in Paris.

To highlight the athletes’ preparation, the PCN is producing a documentary, scheduled to be filmed on August 12 and 13, 2024.

The documentary will showcase the dedication and hard work of Team Nigeria’s Paralympic athletes as they gear up for the Games.

“This documentary will spotlight the potential of our Paralympic athletes,” says Sunday Odebode, President of PCN, during a visit to the training camp in Lagos.

He has been actively supporting the athletes by donating items to enhance their well-being.

Nigeria will be represented in four sports at the 2024 Paralympics: Para Athletics, Para Badminton, Para Powerlifting, and Para Table Tennis. The team breakdown includes 5 athletes in Para Athletics, 2 in Para Badminton, 9 in Para Powerlifting, and 8 in Para Table Tennis.

The athletes will travel to Germany in two groups, with the first batch departing on August 12 and the second on August 13, 2024.

The training tour is expected to sharpen their skills and boost their chances of success in Paris.
