Nigeria records first Coronavirus death

Nigeria has recorded the first case of death to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, made the announcement on Monday via its verified Twitter handle.

According to NCDC, the victim who died at the temporary Coronavirus Isolation Centre of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada this morning at about 2am, was a retiree of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC. He returned 10 days ago from the United Kingdom, and was on self-isolation before he developed complications from the virus and later died.

He had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma and diabetes and was undergoing chemotherapy.
