The European Union has set a December 31st deadline for Nigeria to comply with its Deforestation Regulations (EUDR) or risk facing trade barriers.
Failure to meet this deadline may prevent Nigeria from exporting key commodities such as rubber, palm oil, soya beans, wood, beef, cocoa, coffee, charcoal, and their derivatives to the EU.
Omolola Idowu, President of the Association for Forest Conservation and Green Industrial Charcoal Merchants, highlighted this concern at the University of Ibadan.
Idowu emphasized the importance of complying with the EUDR to avoid trade restrictions and promote sustainable forest management in Nigeria.
